WHEN A LOVED ONE PASSES AWAY
It is usual for people to be unsure of what to do when a loved one passes away. We will take you through the initial steps and provide advice on other things you may need to think about when someone you know dies.
A DEATH AT HOME
If you are on your own call a member of the family, or a friend, to be with you during these first few hours.Call the Doctor, to confirm that the person has passed away but also for you. It is usual to feel anxious and emotionally exhausted. Talk to the doctor about this, they can help you through this most difficult of times.
When you feel ready to let your loved one go, call your Funeral Director.
IN HOSPITAL
Again, don't be alone at this time, call your Funeral Director, they will advise you about the next steps.
IN A NURSING HOME
Staff at the Nursing Home will call you when the person passes away, they will ask the name of your Funeral Director, then arrange for them to collect the deceased.
THE CORONER
If the Doctor does not know the cause of death he will contact the Coroner, this is not unusual so don't let it add to your worries.
REGISTERING THE DEATH
When you have made an appointment with the Registrar you will need to take the following information with you
The full name of the person who has died
Their full address
Their date of birth
Details of where and when the person died
Their occupation (if any)
